Feather: A Unique Lithograph by Fritz Scholder
This lithograph, Feather, was one of the 11 images of the above-mentioned edition. Fritz Scholder tore this one from one of the 11 images. It is in the previous full size, has the artist's name, Tamarind Chop mark, and Scholder's chop mark. The original image is pictured in Fritz Scholder Lithographs, text by Clinton Adams, New York Graphic Society, Boston. 1975.
This work of art is a stone lithograph, but it is the only image, so it does not carry an edition number.
To explain the existence of this single image, we start with the following: In January 1971 Fritz Scholder executed a lithograph at Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque. That lithograph featured a larger image, flanked by 11 small images, postage stamp size. That lithograph is registered as Indian Note Book Page, and it was issued in 7 trial proofs, 7 lettered proofs, and one color trial proof. These copies were not stamped with the chop marks, perhaps because Tamarind did not intend to release any of them.
It is important to understand that this image, Feather, is the only copy. There are no others in the edition.
