Artists' signatures - Maria Montoya Poveka Martinez and Julian

Documentation accompanying an item, regardless of its formality or lack of, is a welcome addition when marketing a work of art.  This small jar has a paper note included, written by the original purchaser, that states “Bought in San Ildefonso at Maria’s house in July of 1937.  At that time, I was Sibyl Graybill.  Signed S. Slocomb.”

The jar is typical of those made by Maria and Julian at the time.  It has a flat bottom and globular underbody sloping inward and upward from the mid body. Julian placed a simple matte black design on the slopping upper half.  It is signed Marie & Julian.

Condition: very good condition for a jar of 80 years.

Provenance: this Small Black-on-black jar signed Marie and Julian is from the daughter of the original owner, as noted above
