A series of delicate gold drops rest in the middle of an oxidized silver band in this multi-stone inlay ring made by Diné of the Navajo Nation artisan Vernon Haskie. Each of the outer bands consists of a single row of multi-stone inlay containing carefully shaped segments of turquoise, lapis, coral, sugilite and shell. The winner of multiple awards and prizes, Vernon Haskie is known for his use of finely shaped gemstones set in elegant silver or gold settings.
Vernon was born in Lukachukai, Arizona. His parents were jewelers, and he made his first pendant at age 9. He attended the University of New Mexico where he got a degree in Biology. In an interview with French e-journal “Revue Lisa” he stated that he helped pay his way through college by occasionally selling jewelry he made.
The ring comes from the estate of Marvin and Betty Rubin. Marvin’s detailed records indicate that the ring was purchased directly from the artist in 1995. The ring has Haskie’s initials VH engraved on the inside as a hallmark.
Condition: The ring is in excellent condition.
Provenance: From the estate of an Albuquerque couple, Marvin and Betty Rubin, who were avid collectors of Native American arts and crafts.
