With regard to modern Zuni jewelers, one would be hard pressed to find a more prolific duo than husband and wife Edison and Jennie Vicenti. The originators of popular Zuni style "needlepoint", they've had a tremendous influence in contemporary Native American jewelry and continue to be innovative leaders in their field.

This particular set is a terrific example of their needlepoint technique, the turquoise being cut in small strands to make 12 notches around each module. Included here are 3 pieces—a necklace, a bracelet, and a set of earrings. Each matches the other, held together by silver clasps and bindings.

Formed at higher elevations and typically found in drier climates, turquoise has been revered by various peoples throughout the Southwest for thousands of years. Easily cut and richly distinctive in color, it is a central component of Native American jewelry. It is thought to assist in self-expression, while bringing enthusiasm, healing of old wounds, and good fortune.

The necklace has five turquoise elements in spider style, with the center one turned horizontal and the others in vertical form. There is a 6-inch chain on each end of the necklace. The bracelet has six spider style elements. The clasp is a silver slide in and lock style. Attached is a silver security chain. Each earring is suspended from a round silver button with a small round turquoise gemstone.

Known for their needlepoint work, Jennie and Ed Vicenti have been majorly influential in the world of Native American jewelry. Hailing from the Zuni Pueblo, each spent some time working in modern America before returning to their Native American roots to design magnificent pieces, each made with a very high degree of integrity and detail. They have been successfully collaborating for more than thirty years.
