Jack Hokeah, Kiowa, was orphaned while still a young boy and was raised by his grandparents. His grandfather was the warrior White Horse. According to Snodgrass, Hokeah, although one of the *Five Kiowas, did not contribute to the art world in his later years. Dockstader said that Hokeah was such an exceptional dancer that it interfered with his painting time.
*The Kiowa Six, previously known as the Kiowa Five, is a group of six Kiowa artists from Oklahoma in the early 20th century. They were Spencer Asah, James Auchiah, Jack Hokeah, Stephen Mopope, Lois Smoky, and Monroe Tsatoke. -Wikipedia
