INDIANISCHE KUNST im 20.Jahrhundert

By Gerhard Hoffman

Published by Prestel-Verlag, München

Hardback with slip cover, first edition, 1985, 375 pages, beautifully illustrated in color

TEXT ENTIRELY IN GERMAN

The book covers early 20th century Native American artists and continues with art of later 20th century artists.  It is an amazing presentation of Native American art of all forms and from many tribes.  Famous potters, katsina doll cavers, painters and other crafts are covered.  It is an extensive catalog of a traveling exhibit throughout Germany in 1984-1985.  Cities included were Berlin, Wurzburg, Frankfurt, Wuppertal and Hamburg. The photographs of the art make it worthwhile even if one cannot read the text.

I have not found a translation from which to provide a more descriptive explanation of the contents (Alexander E. Anthony, Jr.).
