Seferina Ortiz has been one of the most sought after potters who specialized in making storyteller figurines. It is with sadness that we announce that she passed away in May 2007. Her legacy continues through her children—Virgil Ortiz, Joyce Lewis, Mary Janice Ortiz, and Inez Ortiz.

We are fortunate to have one of her storyteller figurines remaining in the gallery. It is a female figurine, featuring the seated adult wearing a traditional pueblo dress draped over one shoulder and under the other, and wearing a flowered cape draped over her back. Her hair is tied in the pueblo chonga and she is wearing traditional pueblo moccasins. Standing on her lap and seated on her legs are four children—two boys and two girls—one of whom is holding a ball. The figurine is dated 2001 and is in original excellent condition.
