Santa Clara Pueblo Polished Black Deeply Incised Jar by Linda Tafoya [SOLD]

Linda is the daughter of Lee and Betty Tafoya and the granddaughter of Margaret Tafoya. She credits her aunt Mary Esther Archuleta with teaching her the techniques of pottery production.

Linda is an award winning Tewa potter and her accomplishments have been recognized by awards from Santa Fe Indian Market, Heard Museum Guild, Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Arts and Crafts and others. She was selected by the State of New Mexico to make a pottery vessel for presentation to the Prince of Spain.

Carving a design into pottery and maintaining the same depth of carve as well as achieving clean and perfect edges to the carved item is not an easy task and many potters do not succeed at doing so, but Linda Tafoya-Oyenque is the exception. She has mastered the techniques of burnishing and execution of carved design. This round carved seed jar is proof of that.

Provenance: This is one of a number of pottery items from the estate of a recently deceased collector. We are awaiting approval from the estate attorney to list the collector by name.
