Though unsigned, this captivating contemporary polychrome pottery jar from Acoma Pueblo embodies the spirit of the Southwest. Its compact form, a departure from traditional water jars, presents a striking interplay of orangish sienna bordered by rich dark brown lines against a flawless white slip. The design unfolds in alternating diamond shapes enclosing inner square windows, each meticulously adorned with rosette-like motifs that powerfully evoke the imagery of gathering rain clouds. Concentrated particularly around the jar's shoulder, these elements coalesce into a visually dynamic composition, mirroring the vibrant energy and rhythmic movement of an approaching rainstorm over the Pueblo lands.
