Once Known Native American Weaver

Navajo Yei rugs represent the “Holy People” of the Navajo and are the messengers between the Navajo and their gods. These figures are often seen in religious sand paintings that are practiced by the Diné and have a curative power. This textile has two central Yei figures standing on either side of a corn plant. They are surrounded by a larger Yei that encompass these figures on three sides, a figure referred to as a Rainbow Guardian.  The wool is handspun and then dyed with colorful aniline dyes.

Condition: There are three very small areas of moth damage on one side of the rug
