Early twentieth-century pottery items made for the tourist trade are very rare and very collectible.  This Cochiti Pueblo historic pottery wall-hanging tile appears to have been made for displaying or resting a pen or pencil or anything else on the pair of hooked projections.  The rectangular box could be used for storage of business cards or other such items.

The design is exquisite.  There is a pair of black kiva step designs, outlined with a black line, on the front and sides of the attached box.  Another similar design is on the tile just above the box and it was outlined in double black lines. Traditional rain clouds are on the upper portion of the tile and a series of crossed lines acts as a frame for the tile.  The edge of the tile is black and the back is red.

This appears to be a very early tourist item, perhaps as early as the 1920s.
