This Cochiti Pueblo wall-hanging font by Juanita Cordero Arquero is the style that might be used for holding holy water in a chapel or sacred corn meal in a home. The back panel is decorated with traditional cloud and rain design elements. The front is the head of a deer in sculpted form. The back is signed with the name of the artist and the date 10-13-83.
The artist, Juanita Cordero Arquero (b.1906-?), is stated to have been actively making pottery only from the 1960s to the 1980s, however, she is the one who encouraged Helen Cordero and Felicita Eustace to try pottery making. Juanita was a sister-in-law of Helen Cordero.
