Award winning artist Lois Gutierrez, a renowned potter from the Santa Clara Pueblo, is celebrated for her exquisite polychrome pottery. Among her notable works is this four-panel pictorial polychrome jar, meticulously painted in 1980. The tan pot features intricate depictions of birds and traditional forms, exemplifying her exceptional artistry and attention to detail. Though small in size, this elegant jar makes a significant impact, standing 3-¾ inches in height with a diameter of 5-½ inches. It is signed Lois on the bottom.
Lois Gutierrez de la Cruz is an accomplished Santa Clara Pueblo potter. Lois is one of the few Santa Clara artists producing polychrome pottery, decorating her jars in a multitude of colorful design elements. The Gutierrez family was one of the 14 families who settled at the pueblo in 1934. The family includes many talented potters—Lois' mother, Petra, and her sisters, Gloria Garcia (Goldenrod), Thelma Talachy, Lupita Gutierrez, and Minnie Vigil all are recognized artisans.
Lois has received many awards for her work, perhaps most notably a Santa Fe Indian Market "Best of Show" prize.
