This Diné of the Navajo Nation silver bracelet was cast in a straight position and then heated and bent to its present position. Such casting is sometimes called "sand casting" or "tufa casting." Prior to casting, the desired design was carved into the soft, porous stone in which the molten silver would be poured. The bracelet appears to date from the mid-twentieth century. Such bracelets are often combined with other silver bracelets and worn in tandem.
