Vernida Polacca Nampeyo (1955-)

Photo by Angie Yan Schaaf, courtesy of Gregory Schaaf.Vernida Polacca Nampeyo is the great-granddaughter of Nampeyo, granddaughter of Fannie Nampeyo, and daughter of Harold and Alice Polacca.  She has been an active potter since 1979 and says that the migration pattern is one of her favorites. She says she enjoys painting intricate lines as it relaxes her.

From a glance at the parallel lines in this wedding vase, it is obvious that she has had much experience painting fine lines.  The criss-cross lines on the body of this vase were laid on with precision. Vernida was not content to just place parallel black lines as is traditional to the migration pattern, she then overlaid it with criss cross lines that form squares.  That constituted three applications of lines.
