This is a strong image of an almost full view of a Native American man.  His clothing and hair style have contributed to describing him as a Taos Pueblo Indian—the braided hair and the white blanket wrapped around his waist are typical Taos Pueblo male attire.

The painting is not signed with the name of the artist; however, it is apparent that the artist was not a beginner, but an accomplished one.  The treatment of the blue shirt is extraordinary in the many folds delineated by changes in blue intensity.  The man is looking slightly off to the right rather than straight ahead and has his right hand on his hip in a defying manner.  The red scarf was an excellent color to brighten the blue and white pigments.  Behind him is an adobe wall.

The painting is framed in a carved two-layer gold tone frame with a linen inner liner.

Condition: excellent original condition

Provenance: this Original Painting of a Taos Pueblo Indian Man is from the collection of a Santa Fe resident
