Yei figures are supernatural beings of the Diné that allow communication between the Diné people and their great spirits. What a creative and loving idea to be able to wear such a critical and protective spirit whenever one wishes. Curved divinely around the wrist, this Yei has a square head with feathers reaching toward moccasins across a one inch opening on the bottom of the wrist.
The artist left the hair and background sky around the Yei’s body and feet roughly imprinted by the casting of the bracelet. This imprinting provides tactile juxtaposition between the rough and sleek elements of the bracelet. Incisions have been made outlining and indicating the Yei’s eyes, clothing, and moccasins. The bracelet is narrow, measuring only 3/16” in width.
A rainbow of fantastic gemstones has been used for the channeled inlay. From rich malachite to ribbed orange and red spiny oyster, to luxuriously purple sugilite and iridescent dolomite—the stones chosen for this bracelet radiate energy. A smaller channel on the back of the Yei’s moccasins has also been inlaid with flat gemstones, adding even more color.
