This Navajo sterling silver lidded box differs from most others in that it is rectangular in shape and longer.  In addition for use as a container for pills, it could be used for holding wood matches or wood toothpicks. Perhaps the Diné artisan felt it was more useful in this size.

The lid is attached with handmade hinges.  There are stamped designs on all four vessel walls and on the lid.  The designs are light and delicate. The box is not signed with the name of an artisan.

Condition: this Stamped Sterling Silver Diné Oblong Lidded Box is in very good condition

Provenance: from the extensive collection of a client from Washington, D.C.
