This Zuni Pueblo pin and earrings set is a marvelous match as a pair, however, the earrings and pin are stamped with different maker’s markings. The markings are unusual and I have not yet identified the makers. The marks are somewhat similar so, perhaps, they were made by different members of the same family.
The sun face is of mother of pearl with jet eyes and mouth, and a semicircle brow of turquoise and spondylus shell. The sun face’s earrings are spondylus shell, and the feathers are jet, tipped with semicircles of turquoise.
The pair of earrings is fitted for pierced ears with jet and spondylus shell circles over the posts. The fan-style dangle has a repeat of the circles over the posts, and a fan of mother of pearl, jet, and turquoise.
Whether made as a set or not, they work beautifully as a set. It appears they date to the late twentieth century.
Condition: very good condition
Provenance: this Zuni Pueblo Mosaic Inlay Sunface Pin and Earrings SET is from the collection of a resident of Albuquerque.
