Jim Fred is a Hopi Indian of the Greasewood/Roadrunner Clans. He was born in 1945 and has been an active carver of Katsina dolls since 1961. He lives on the Hopi Reservation in the Third Mesa Village of Bacavi. He is a brother of other Hopi Katsina doll carvers, Henry Fred, Malcolm Fred, Verlan Fred, Nathan Fred and Glenn Fred.
