The unassuming ovoid diameter is complemented by a lizard emerging from the dome-shaped lid. Ergonomically pleasing and visually stunning, the bowl is signed on the bottom with C McHorse. The piece was made prior to 1988.

Christine McHorse (1948-2021), also known as Christine Nofchissey, was a renowned Navajo potter from New Mexico. She blended Navajo, Pueblo, and Anglo influences in her work, earning numerous awards and widespread respect in the art world.

Born on December 21, 1948, Christine was raised in southeastern Arizona, spending summers herding sheep with her grandmother and learning Navajo traditions. After graduating from the Institute of American Indian Arts in 1966, she married Joel McHorse from Taos Pueblo, where she learned traditional pottery from his grandmother, Lena Archuleta.

Christine's pottery, known for its unique firing methods, included traditional Navajo pit firing, electric kiln firing, and a hybrid method. Her impressive career featured numerous exhibitions and awards in the U.S., Germany, and Canada. She consistently won ribbons at Santa Fe's Indian Market, including two blue ribbons in 1992.
