Artist Signature of Ethel Vigil, Santa Clara Pueblo PotterThis spectacular polished red carved pottery jar by Santa Clara Pueblo artist Ethel Vigil features two design elements.  The design at the neck is a Greek key style and the one on the body is a traditional Avanyu.  The red is a rich deep color, and the burnishing highlights the color and carving.  The jar is truly exquisite.

Ethel Vigil (b.1950) is a daughter of Mida Tafoya and was most probably taught the art of pottery making by her mother. Mida was a granddaughter of Sara Fina Tafoya, and daughter of Christina Naranjo.  Artistic talent certainly runs in the Tafoya family.
