This spectacular polished red carved pottery jar by Santa Clara Pueblo artist Ethel Vigil features two design elements. The design at the neck is a Greek key style and the one on the body is a traditional Avanyu. The red is a rich deep color, and the burnishing highlights the color and carving. The jar is truly exquisite.
Ethel Vigil (b.1950) is a daughter of Mida Tafoya and was most probably taught the art of pottery making by her mother. Mida was a granddaughter of Sara Fina Tafoya, and daughter of Christina Naranjo. Artistic talent certainly runs in the Tafoya family.
Condition: original condition
Provenance: this Ethel Vigil Santa Clara Pueblo Red Carved Jar is from the estate of a family from New Mexico
