Hand Blown Replica of a Historic Acoma Olla - Mesa Pot [SOLD]

In the early 2000s, Nambe Mills of Santa Fe collaborated with the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture to create a limited edition of hand-blown crystal pottery vessels inspired by pieces in the museum’s collection.  Nambe Mills selected Rogaska Crystals of Croatia, to perform the hand-blown process to make the jars.

Nambe and Rogaska produced glass replicas of  five different pueblo jars. According to Nambe staff, there were approximately 1000 hand-blown glass replicas of each historic jar.

The pottery vessel that inspired this piece (shown right), came from Acoma Pueblo, ca. 1900 and is part of the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, Museum of New Mexico, Santa Fe collection.  The glass interpretation was named Mesa Pot.  -Image Source: Museum of Indian Arts and Culture website - may be subject to copyright.

These special offerings were designed to reflect both the historic collections of the Museum of New Mexico and to showcase the way in which Santa Feans style their homes—layering  different styles and cultural elements to create a uniquely personal look.

Nambe Mills staff recently informed us that the project ceased after five different vessels were made because having to subcontract the glass-blowing portion of the project was excessively expensive and not a profitable product for sale by Nambe.

Provenance: purchased directly from Nambe Mills by a Santa Fe resident at the time it was released.
