Alvin Baca, Santa Clara Pueblo Potter

This richly colored red jar, made by Alvin Baca, uses a beautiful ribbing technique that is traditional in his family. His mother, Angela Baca, is said to be the inventor of this form, and Alvin has executed it meticulously on this redware piece. The ribbed lines begin about an inch from the mouth and extend all the way to the bottom of the jar, done in a uniform pattern, each equidistant from the other. The coloration is deep and pleasing, being smoothly polished and in excellent condition.
