Pat Harrison reveals her mastery of colors and the seasonal shifts they accompany with this enchanting Southwestern watercolor.  This original painting of St. Jerome's Chapel at Taos Pueblo shows a special juxtaposition between light and dark during wintertime in Northern New Mexico.  Light may be limited nearer to the winter solstice, but midday, if it has snowed, there appears to be light everywhere.

Desert scrubs wear their deadened winter hues but are rich next to the stark white of the snow.  This view of the buildings is very pleasing to the eye, with its highlighted portion being one in the same with the tallest and central aspects of the scene. This view of adobe buildings in wintertime reveals the magic of this time of year.

Artist Signature of Pat Harrison, Western ArtistThe painting is signed Pat Harrison in lower right.  It is framed beautifully under glass and fabric matting.

A native of the Southwest, Pat Harrison (1941- ) studied fine arts and architecture at Texas Tech University and was awarded her Fine Arts degree in 1967.  Harrison’s career very much reflects her love of both architecture and creating, for she has spent time working with many institutions creating large scale art and murals for a variety of spaces including passive solar adobe homes, hospitals, city fairs, schools and so much more.  Pat’s style has evolved as she began with watercolor and has more recently been experimenting with a very limited palette of oil paints.  From landscapes to burros, Harrison is continually inspired by her Southwestern surroundings and has found infinite ways to express this in painting. From 1969 to 1977, she was a partner in Galeria del Sol, an Old Town Gallery in Albuquerque with Jane Mabry, Carol McIlroy, and Betty Sabo.

Condition: excellent condition.

Provenance: this Original Watercolor of St. Jerome's Chapel at Taos Pueblo in Winter is from a private Santa Fe collection.
