This exquisite equestrian jar was made by Jody Naranjo of Santa Clara Pueblo in 2006. In this jar a series of spirited horses runs across the body of the jar. The horses are polished red like the upper body of the jar that rests on a sgraffito textured background. It is an absolutely wonderful piece that has a sense of freedom and joy about it. The craftsmanship is flawless. The jar is signed and dated 2006.
Jody Naranjo is a prize-winning potter from Santa Clara Pueblo who has taken the art form of pueblo pottery to a new level. She has been awarded prizes since she was a teen. She comes from a family of prize-winning potters and artists. While continuing the tradition of hand coiling and hand polishing pottery as done by her ancestors, she brings a totally contemporary vibrancy to her work.
Condition: very good
Provenance: this Red Jar with Organic Opening and Sgraffito Horses is from the estate of a Santa Fe resident
