Margaret and Luther Gutierrez, Santa Clara Pueblo Potters

Margaret (b1936) and Luther (1911-1987) were the children of Lela and Van Gutierrez. Working together, the siblings continued the polychrome style of painting begun by their parents. Sometimes their work is whimsical and other times it is most elegant. In the case of their animals, humor rules. This beautifully executed jar is a combination of elegance and whimsy. The non-animal designs are strong and elegant in beautiful colors of natural clay. The four creatures are typical of the artists’ style of humor. Condition: The jar is in original excellent condition Provenance: ex.coll. Tulsa, OK pueblo pottery collectors Recommended Reading: Fourteen Families in Pueblo Pottery by Rick Dillingham
