Photo of Christina Naranjo ca. 1973 courtesy of Rick Dillingham. (Fourteen Families In Pueblo Pottery). This small black carved jar made by Christina Naranjo features a traditional Tewa Avanyu design.  It has a beautiful burnish and a carefully carved design.  It was most likely made in the mid-20th century.

Christina Naranjo was the daughter of Sara Fina and Geronimo Tafoya, and the sister to Margaret and Camilio Tafoya, all of whom were outstanding potters.  It seems that all of Sara Fina’s and Geronimo’s children were inherently talented, and most of them pursued pottery as a career.
