Diné artist Shane Hendren is a modern Renaissance man. He is an accomplished jeweler as well as a photographer, sculptor, painter and cabinet maker. When he is not creating art, he can be found bull riding and training horses. He also has served as an official with the Indian Arts and Crafts Board.  He is the recipient of multiple awards at the Eiteljorg Museum, Heard Museum and Santa Fe Indian Market, and his work has been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide.

Shane holds a degree in Museum Management from the Institute of American Indian Arts, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Arts from the University of New Mexico. His teachers include Lane Coulter (IAIA), Gibson Nez and Constance DeJong (UNM).

The influence of his teachers is noticeable by his innovative use of creative, new techniques such as marriage of metals, mokume, and many forms of casting in which he sets elegant stones. In this contemporary silver cross, he artist used multiple textures to create two different sides. The cross consists of half spheres, of which one side is rounded and highly polished and the other is concave and textured. The concave side has a small cabochon of turquoise in the center.  A large hook allows the pendant to hang with ease. The piece is signed on the polished side with the artist’s hallmark, an S and an R engraved within an H.
